Mahaica/Mahaicony, Buxton/Beterverwagting record easy wins in President’s Cup

Mahaica/Mahaicony and Buxton/Beterverwagting recorded easy wins when the Region Four zone in the ‘One Guyana President’s Cup’ Football Championship continued yesterday at the Buxton Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara.

Buxton/Beterverwagting downed East Ruimveldt/East La Penitence 3-1. The trio of Makhaya Jervis, Omari Glasgow, and Jamar Harrigon scored in the 41st, 50th and 60th minute respectively. On target in the loss was Dwayne Kellman in the 70th minute.

Similarly, Mahaica/Mahaicony crushed Harbour Bridge 5-0. Julius Hamilton crafted a second half hat-trick in the 46th, 52nd and 65th minute, while Eon Abel and Trevon Adams netted in the 22nd and 26th minute respectively.

On Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda, hard-fought wins were recorded by West Ruimveldt and the combination of Grove/Diamond/Samatta Point.

West Ruimveldt defeated Golden Grove 1-0. The experienced Colin Nelson scored in the 56th minute following a scoreless first half period. Similarly, Grove/Diamond/Samatta Point overcame a 0-1 deficit to defeat North/South Sophia 2-1. Second half goals from Devon Padmore and Lloyd Matthews in the 72nd and 76th minute respectively sealed the come-from- behind wins, after Tevin Brown had initially given North/South Sophia the lead in the 9th minute.

Similarly, on Sunday at the National Training Centre, Providence, Highway will match skills with Alberttown/Bourda at 12.30 hours, with Top Zone battling South Ruimveldt/Tucville at 15.00 hours. The final two matches of the first round in the Region 4 division will be staged on Monday at the Buxton Community Centre ground. At 18.00 hours, Plaisance/Liliendaal will tackle Kitty/Campbellville, while Victoria/Ann’s Grove will face-off against Lodge/Wortmanville from 20.30 hours. The quarterfinal round will commence on Thursday November 24 at the GFC ground.

The tournament has also kicked-off in regions Two, Five, Six, and Ten respectively. The event is yet to commence in region One, Eight, Seven, and Nine respectively. Upon the conclusion of the regional section, 25 players will be selected from each of the zones to contest the national championship. The winners of the respective administrative divisions are not the automatic representatives of the region.
