Uitvlugt, Pomeroon advance in One Guyana President’s Cup tourney

Uitvlugt and Pouderoyen advanced to the second round in the Region #3 Zone of the ‘One Guyana President’s Cup’ Football Championship, following contrasting wins Friday evening at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

Uitvlugt downed Bagotville 3-0 with the contest effectively sealed at the end of the first half after Uitvlugt recorded all three conversions. Veteran forward Lerone Jacobs opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Experienced midfielder Jamaal Harvey then made his presence felt with a 41st-minute strike. The eventual score-line was then sealed two minutes later when Delon Lanferman etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.

Meanwhile, Pouderoyen overcame Wales 3-2 on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended 2-2. Prior to the eventual outcome, Pouderoyen opened the scoring in the ninth minute via Esan Nelson.

The score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval. Wales would equalize through Quessey Alleyne in the 78th minute. However, Pouderoyen reclaimed the advantage after EJ Mars found the back of the net in the 88th minute.

Wales, nevertheless,  restored parity to proceedings under fortuitous circumstances, as Pouderoyen incurred an unfortunate own goal in the 90th+3.

 The event resumes today at the same venue with another doubleheader. Stewartville will battle Crane at 18:00hrs whilst Den Amstel will oppose the winner of the earlier Belle West and Parika encounter at 20:30hrs.

Meanwhile, in the Region #5 section, Weldaad dismantled Seafield 6-0. Benjamin Opara bagged a double in the 18th and 65th minute while Delroy Fraser, Sherwyn Caesar, Olvis Mitchell, and Nickozie Hope netted in the third, eighth, 19th and 73rd minute respectively.

Also, Hopetown downed Ithaca 2-1.
