Six homeless after Hope fire

Six persons are now homeless after a fire of unknown origin destroyed their one-flat wooden and concrete house at Hope, according to a press release from the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service.

The release said that the fire service received a call at 7.58 pm on Saturday and was alerted to a fire at Lot 303 Hope, Estate Road, East Coast Demerara.

Water Tender #106 and Water Carrier #14 from the Mahaica and Melanie Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the location.

The structure involved was a one-flat wooden and concrete building owned occupied by 22-year-old Jamal Marshall and 24-year-old Monte Moses and his family of four.

One jet working from Water Carrier #14 was used to extinguish the fire.

While no one was injured, the building and its contents were destroyed leaving six persons homeless.
