A father of two was remanded to prison after he was charged with breaking into a sports bar and stealing beverages.

The accused, 34-year-old Kurt Singh of Lot 143 Fifth Street, Alberttown, George-town, made his appearance on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him.

It is alleged that on October 28 at Fifth Street,  Alberttown, while being in the company of others, Singh broke and entered the business place of Tony Ramcharran and stole one LG 65-inch television valued at $300,000, four cases of Magnum worth $34,000, four cases of XL worth $16,000, six cases of Rude Boy valued $60,000, two cases of Smirnoff vodka valued $17,400, four bottles of Cîroc vodka worth $14,000, twelve bottles of Absolute vodka valued at $102,000, six bottles Hennessy cognac worth $36,000, twenty-three small bottles of rum worth $46,000, and seventy-nine packets of cigarettes worth 24,840.

After hearing the charge, Singh pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison. He will make his next court appearance on November 23rd.

According to the prosecutor, Shaundel Chapman, Singh is known to Ramcharran since he (Singh) resides in the same street where the bar is located. Chapman said that on the day in question, the virtual complainant who is renting the bar had secured his business place at about 00:10hrs and left to go home.

However, when he returned at about 08:30hrs on the said day, he noticed that there was no padlock on the western grill door. As such, he went further into the bar and made checks and discovered that the said items were missing.

Ramcharran then reviewed his CCTV cameras which showed two suspects removing the beverages from the bar. Chapman said that Singh who was one of the suspects seen on the camera monitor was positively identified by Ramcharran since he too lives in Fifth Street, Alberttown.

The defendant was eventually apprehended, told of the allegation, cautioned and arrested.
