La Penitence man stabbed to death

A 39-year-old man was yesterday morning fatally stabbed over an old grievance and the police have since arrested his attacker, who has confessed to the crime.

Dead is Mark Frank, of Lot 13 Company Path, La Penitence, Georgetown.

The attack occurred around 07:05 hrs at Cross Street, Riverview, Ruim-veldt, Georgetown.

The suspect, who has been identified as an 18-year-old fisherman, was arrested shortly after the attack. He is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

Reports are that Frank and the suspect are known to each other.

Stabroek News understands that Frank was riding his bicycle heading onto Cross Street yesterday morning when he was confronted by the suspect, who told him “you think I forget you when you chop me”.

Frank ignored the suspect, who allegedly whipped out a knife from his waist and stabbed him to his neck. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

Frank fell to the ground and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospi-tal, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police were summoned and checks were made for the suspect, who was subsequently apprehended.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that the suspect was questioned during which he confessed to committing the crime. He also provided the police with details of what transpired.

According to information reaching this newspaper, the suspect reportedly told investigators that he and Frank had a misunderstanding some time last year during which Frank chopped him to his hand.

He said that attack was never reported to the police.

On Monday, the suspect added that he was heading to a friend’s place in Riverview, Ruimveldt to collect his television when he was approached by Frank.

He claimed that although he warned Frank to stay away from him, Frank appeared as though he was going to “pull out” something from his bicycle.

As a result, he said he pulled out a knife and stabbed Frank.

Investigators recovered the suspected murder weapon.
