French Guiana edge Guyana at IGG b/ball

Guyana lost to French Guiana 67-70 in male basketball action of the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) Saturday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Kimol Grimmond top scored for the Guyanese with 19 points and nine rebounds. The next best scorer for the hosts was Jether Harris with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Shannon Wilson added 10 points, while the duo of Charles Williams and Carmelo Man-Son-Hing chipped in with seven and six points respectively.

For the French outfit, Yolnek Auzil netted 25 points while the Djohny Queentant, Jordan Paul and Emmanuel Denche contributed 14, 12, and 10 points respectively.

Locked at 19-19 at the end of the first quarter, the home side raced into the lead, as they outscored their opponent 23-17 in the second stanza to enter into the halftime interval ahead at 42-36.

However, the French outfit reduced the deficit in the pivotal third period, outscoring Guyana 19-15 to trail 57-55 heading into the final stanza. Guyana would suffer a come from behind loss to the visitors as they were outscored 15-10.

In the girl’s division, Suriname downed French Guiana 63-41.
