Brazilian, Guyanese intercepted with ganja at Lethem

A Brazilian national and a Guyanese were on Thursday arrested by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) after finding 40 grams of cannabis in a vehicle bearing Brazilian licence plates in Lethem while another 600 grams were found in some bushes.

According to CANU, on December 1, their officers in Lethem intercepted a red vehicle bearing Brazilian licence plates number NAI 0550 with two occupants on the Rupununi Road in Central Lethem in the vicinity of South bus stop.

A search was then conducted inside of the vehicle where a quantity of cannabis concealed in a plastic bag and stored in a haversack was found.

As a result, the two occupants, Romario Da Cunha Watson Dosantos, 24, of Brazil, and Ken Perry of Maruranau Village, South Rupununi, were arrested and escorted to CANU’S Lethem Office along with the suspected narcotics, which tested positive for cannabis. The narcotics amounted to 40 grammes.

Meanwhile, on the same date, a further operation was conducted in Central Lethem, where CANU officers found a black plastic bag hidden in a clump of bushes in an alley.

A search of the bag led to the discovery of a quantity of cannabis. As a result, the narcotics were also taken to CANU’s Lethem office and tested positive for cannabis. The narcotics weighed a total of 600 grams.
