Dear Editor,
I am saddened at the recent loss of our elderly folks. Almost all of us at one point had the privilege of having both or one grandparent, and no doubt, we adored them and would protect them from all harm. Editor, it is sad to be reading about the vicious and deadly attacks that are being meted out at our older folks by their own relatives. Sometimes I wonder if we ever think of the repercussions of such actions, or, whether if those involved really do have a conscience.
Two of the murders were allegedly done by persons who are afflicted with some form of mental challenges while the other was reportedly out of greed. Some of us really don’t have compassion for our own, it is sad. What can we do to stop this unthinkable lawlessness? Editor, I often tell people I wished I had both of my grandparents. Fortunately, I was lucky to have known my maternal grandmother but I often wonder what my paternal grandmother looked like. There isn’t a photograph to tell what she looked like so that not knowing my paternal grandmother and grandfather remains a mystery.
Thank God I still have both of my parents and I would not want any harm to ever visit them. I hope this madness of killing our elderly folks becomes a thing of the past because we can learn so much from them instead of taking away their lives. God help us all and more so my beautiful Guyana.
