After 18 years of abuse, a Liverpool Village, Corentyne woman gained the strength through support from relatives and friends to separate from her reputed husband. However, the man has since attacked her twice at her new location and the woman is pleading with the police in Region Six to swiftly arrest him.

Karen Aneka Althea Mickel, 45, explained to Stabroek News yesterday that she entered a relationship with her reputed husband some eighteen years ago and they have a nine-year-old son.

The woman said that throughout the relationship she has faced constant physical, verbal and emotional abuse. However, in September she was finally able to separate from the man.

She recalled that he would often tell her that one day she’ll reach the “burial ground” as a result of his actions, and that he would not allow any woman to “pass him through court.”

She said that after he learnt of her new location, he began stalking her and visiting her house several days where he would curse her publicly.

According to Karen, several weeks ago she was on the road when the man attacked her and brutally beat her about her body. He also damaged her phone which had pictures of her injuries sustained during previous assaults.

She said she sought private medical attention and filed a report at the Whim Police Station. However, the man is still to be arrested. She said, the police told her to “call them in the nights so that they can go for him.”

However, she said, she went one evening with them but neighbours relayed that the man had left the residence moments before the ranks arrived. “I believe someone giving him information because the neighbour said he just lef when we go.”

Further, Karen said that she has not been able to go with the police any other nights to search for the man since she is scared to leave her son at home alone during the evenings.

But that was not the end of the attacks, while there is an active report against the man, some four days ago he once more attacked Karen. She said he snuck up behind her and choked her until she became unconscious.

After regaining consciousness and rushing home, Karen phoned the Whim Police Station who informed her that they would not be able to respond since the police’s vehicle was out.

According to the devastated woman, she has not heard back from the Whim Police Station since.

Yesterday, the woman who seems to be at her wits end said, “I scared a lot about my life, for eighteen-year constant knocking and then when I was with him he would always say he ain’t living with no woman what put police on he.”

She said the man would often threaten to burn the house they once lived in if she is to ever file a police report against him. “I want the police to arrest him”, the woman pleaded yesterday.
