Three found not guilty of Crabwood Creek farmer’s murder

Three men yesterday walked out of the High Court in Berbice as free men after they were found not guilty of the murder of a 24-year-old farmer from Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne in July 2017.

Reaz Hack, Reaz Munroe and Sunil Manniram were on trial for the murder of Cheddi Eshwar Sawh, 24, of Lot 97 Grant 2767 at the High Court in Berbice before Justice Navindra Singh.

The indictment said that between July 23, 2017, and July 29, 2017, they murdered Sawh.

After Justice Singh summed up the matter yesterday, the jury returned with a not guilty verdict for each of the accused.

The state’s case was presented by attorney at law, Nafeeza Baig. Hack was represented by attorney at law, Sasha Roberts, while Munroe and Manniram were represented by attorney at law, Surihya Sabsook.

On the evening of July 23, 2017, around 10.30, Sawh was in the vicinity of the Malali Area, in Crabwood Creek when a gang of men pounced on him. A relative had said, that an eyewitness told the family that the attack lasted for a couple minutes, after which the men fled.

Sawh was left with severe head injuries and eventually succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on July 29, 2017.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as multiple blunt trauma injuries to the head which cause cerebral haemorrhage.
