Mechanic charged with theft from friends

A man has been remanded to prison after he was charged with stealing over $426,000 in items from two of his friends who it was said he has known for over 10 years.

Delbert Mohamed, 40, a mechanic of Lot 66 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, made an appearance on Wednesday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who read the charge to him.

It is alleged that Mohamed on December 4 at Dennis Street, Campbellville, while in the company of others and armed with a dangerous weapon, which was a gun, robbed Mark Bradford of an Invicta watch valued at $280,000, two gold and silver rings valued $90,000 and a gold and silver chain worth $56,000.

It was further alleged that on the same date and place, he also robbed Suzette Bollers of $1,500 and a pair of artificial earrings worth $3,000.

The father of six pleaded not guilty to both charges and was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned until December 14.

According to the court prosecutor, on the day in question at about 20:50 hours, Bradford was sitting in his car which was parked along Dennis Street where he was awaiting Bollers.

While seated in the car, Mohamed who was in the company of another then approached the car and opened the door and placed a gun to the victim’s head and relieved him of the aforementioned articles. Additionally, they also approached Bollers who was at the time walking towards the car and stole the items mentioned in the charge and escaped.
