On December 6, SBM Offshore engaged with part-time and full-time students of the Guyana Industrial Training Centre to apprise them of the company’s role in Guyana and the career choices that are available in the oil and gas industry.

Human Resources Manager, Onecia Johnson, encouraged the students to fully utilise the team’s visit and immerse themselves in gathering information on the petroleum sector. Talent Acquisition Specialist, Danny Seegobin, who is responsible for recruiting Guyanese nationals, used the opportunity to inform students of the various career opportunities available within the industry. His presentation included the positions available both onshore and offshore, key competencies the company considers during the recruitment process, and a synopsis of the company’s Engineers’ Programme and Trainee Technician Programme, which is geared towards enhancing the skills of young Guyanese to enable them to play key roles in the country’s oil and gas sector.

Human Resource Business Partner, Shaun Prince, highlighted the company’s role in carbon reduction solutions, electrification and carbon capture technologies, residual emissions, and new power-generation technologies. Prince also introduced the students to the functions of the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels in oil production.

General Manager, Martin Cheong outlined what he described as the exceptional safety and operational standards that SBM Offshore upholds. He noted that much focus is also placed on being an energy transition company, with a strong emphasis on ensuring local capacity development.
