A Diamond juice vendor was yesterday charged with a cybercrime after he allegedly posted several videos with degrading remarks about the Commissioner of Police (Ag) Clifton Hicken and Assistant Police Commissioner Calvin Brutus.

The two charges against the 26-year-old Kevin Hiraman of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara state that between August 1 and December 12 at Georgetown, he used his cell phone as a computer system and posted on TikTok, several derogatory remarks about Hicken with the intent to harass or cause substantial embarrassment to him.

It was also alleged that between the same dates, he used the same social media platform to post several degrading remarks about Brutus with the intention to harass or cause substantial embarrassment to him as well.

Hiraman pleaded not guilty to both charges and was placed on $50,000 bail on each charge. He was also ordered to report to Assistant Superintendent Mitchell Caesar at the Criminal Investigation Department, Eve Leary.

The prosecutor had objected to bail on the grounds that Hiraman intentionally made the videos which were circulating in the public domain for over five months now and as such have caused Hicken and Brutus substantial embarrassment since the videos have encouraged that their reputation be tarnished.

The court heard that the defendant used three different TikTok accounts and posted the same video thrice.
