World renowned Professor in economics, Jeffrey D. Sachs, is expected to be a keynote speaker at Guyana’s International Energy Conference and Expo 2022, a press release from Tagman Media said yesterday.

In its statement, Tagman Media highlighted a statement by Anthony Whyte, Chairman of the International Energy Conference and Expo Guyana 2022, referring to Sachs’ participation at the conference and expo. According to the release, Whyte said, “We will have many more energy thought leaders as we facilitate discussions on sustainable development for Guyana and the region.” “With his decades of experience and his distinctive position, I think we could learn a lot from Professor Sachs. He possesses a wealth of information, as seen by his numerous contributions to combating climate change and promoting sustainable development.”

Sachs, described in the release as a bestselling author, innovative educator, and global leader in sustainable development, is also cited in the release for being widely recognized for developing bold and effective strategies to address complex challenges, including the escape from extreme poverty, the global battle against human-induced climate change, international debt and financial crises, national economic reforms, and the control of pandemic and epidemic diseases.

The statement also mentioned Sachs as being the recipient of awards such as the 2022 Tang Prize in Sustainable Development and the co-recipient of the 2015 Blue Planet Prize, the leading global prize for environmental leadership. He was named twice, according to Tagman Media, as among Time magazine’s 100 most influential world leaders.

The Conference is expected to assemble Heads of State, government officials, policymakers, academics, industry professionals, and global energy thought-leaders. The Conference and Expo is now entering its second year under the theme ‘Harnessing Energy for Development’ and will be held from February 14th-17th, 2023 at the Marriott Hotel, Georgetown, Guyana.
