A post-mortem examination carried out on the body of Tinesha Johnson, who was found tangled in a torn hammock, yesterday revealed that she died as a result of asphyxia compounded with broncho aspiration.

The autopsy was done at the Skeldon Hospital by Dr. Vivekanand Bridgemohan.

Johnson’s mother, Latoya Lavric also known as “Toya”, 35, had told investigators that her four children were at home while she headed out onto the Number 50, Corentyne road to purchase fish from a van that was passing.

However, her children then informed her that something seemed wrong with Tinesha as they had observed blood running from her nostrils.

Lavric immediately rushed home where she discovered her daughter lying motionless under a hammock which was tied under a fruit tree at the back of the yard. Blood was noticed oozing from her nostrils.

Tinesha was picked up and rushed to Skeldon Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 11-year-old was a student at the Tagore Memorial Secondary School.
