Region #4 dismissed Region #9 by a 1-0 score when the ‘One Guyana President’s Cup’ Football Championship continued on Friday evening at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora. Viewed by a small crowd, the conversion which occurred in the 22nd minute, proved to be the eventual winner.
Kelsey Benjamin made his presence felt, the wily attacker racing onto a through pass from Shemar Fraser, before slamming his effort past the opposing custodian from inside the penalty area.
Meanwhile, Region #1 downed neighbours Region #2 3-1. Romario Welcome recorded a double in the 45th+6 and 59th minute while Earl Gill added a conversion in the 55th minute. For the losers, Randy DeJounge found the back of the net in the 45th+5 minute.
The tournament is set to continue today with the quarterfinal round of matches. At the Buxton Community ground, Region #4 will oppose Region #6, whilst Region #7 opposes Region #8 at the Bartica Community ground. Both fixtures will commence at 19:00hrs. The semi-final round will start on Wednesday.
