Make a plan and go running into 2023

First off I would like to wish everyone reading this column, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As the end of each year draws to a close, the phrase ‘new year, new me’ is written and posted quite a lot on social media platforms.

With the end of one chapter and the start of a new one, the New Year can be a time for self-improvement. December can be a great time for self-reflection and goal setting. What would you like to achieve in the coming year? More importantly, how can you be the best version of yourself in 2023?

There are a number of steps that can be taken in order to best prepare yourself for a fantastic year ahead. Let’s jump into it.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle

What could start your year off better than maintaining a healthy lifestyle? Prioritizing your health and keeping good habits is one of the easiest ways to aid you on your self-improvement journey in 2023. Studies show that when you fuel yourself with nourishing foods, you will see an improved focus and mental state.

There are lots of elements involved in having a healthy lifestyle: drinking lots of water, eating a balanced diet, getting adequate exercise and maintaining a healthy work/life balance are some examples.

As well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, looking after your mental health and thinking positively can impact how likely you are to achieve personal growth goals.

Write down goals and check in

Spending just a little bit of time to create a personal development plan can lead to huge rewards further down the line. Studies show that people who strategically plan and write down their goals are more likely to achieve them.

Additionally, creating a plan for the coming year, checking in with your goals frequently allows you to measure progress and acts as a reminder to stay on track.

Prioritize personal development

Make it a priority to want to improve. It is reported that up to 94% of millennials have committed to self-improvement goals, meaning that more and more young people are seeing the value in personal development.

An excellent way of sticking to your personal development plan is to work with a trainer and/or mentor; having a support system makes you more accountable and motivated.

As your own personal sounding board, a trainer and/or mentor can shine new light on areas for improvement, highlighting blind spots in your personal development plan that may not have otherwise been noticed. According to studies, coaching and mentoring relationships are key to driving success in personal and professional lives.

Take note of these tips on how to be the best version of yourself and start off 2023 with a bang.
