Two teens held over stolen gun

Two 16-year-old boys are in custody after a licensed firearm holder reported to the police that his weapon had been stolen.

The police yesterday said that Clarence Griffith of Aubrey Barker Road, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, went to Ruimveldt Police Station at about 10 am on Christmas Day and reported that his firearm had been stolen.

Griffith told Police that he suspected that a 16-year-old had stolen his firearm along with six matching rounds from his home.

Police arrested the teenager in Georgetown and questioned him about the missing firearm. The police say that the teen admitted that he stole the weapon and related to Police that he had handed over the firearm to another 16-year-old who lives at Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, for him to hide the firearm.

Acting on this information, at about 1 am yesterday, the Police conducted a joint operation with ranks from Regional Divisions 4A and 4C. The ranks went to the home of the 16-year-old at Beterverwagting, where he was spoken to in the presence of his mother. He was questioned about the firearm and admitted to receiving it from the other 16-year-old.

He then took the Police to the back of his house and pointed out a spot where he had hidden the firearm and six matching rounds of ammunition. Both teenagers are in custody as investigations continue.
