Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, yesterday said that the community of Uitvlugt will soon be briefed on the effects of the sea defence works which are currently being done in the area.

A concerned resident of the community had sent a video to Stabroek News highlighting the overtopping of the seawall by ocean water even as sea defence works were being carried out just behind the wall.

When contacted yesterday, the minister said  that it it was the contractor’s duty to reach out to the community and enlighten residents on what they could expect from the ongoing works and also to assure them that they will be safe nevertheless. As such, he said that talks will soon be held with the community.

In the video which was viewed by this newspaper, the ocean water which could be seen profusely overtopping the seawall was also causing the soil behind the wall to be eroded, with the water lodging in the area that was being dug up by an excavator.
