The Golden Jaguars and the Lady Jags, will conclude the year ranked 171st and 87th respectively which is unchanged from the previous editions, following the official publication of the December FIFA Men’s and Women’s rankings chart.

This was confirmed by the final release by the world governing body for the year of 2022. The Golden Jaguars despite their dormancy on the international circuit following their June campaign in the 2022 Concacaf Nations League, remain rooted on 171st out of 211 affiliated members.

The men’s programme remains on 968.74 points and is currently squeezed between Caribbean rivals Puerto Rico (170th), and St Lucia (172nd).

The Lady Jaguars

The Guyanese in their previous international engagements, defeated Montserrat and Bermuda by 2-1 margins but suffered embarrassing defeats to Haiti in consecutive matches, 2-6, and 0-6. The Golden Jaguar’s best ever ranking was 86th and was achieved in 2010 while their worst position was 185th in 2004. Overall, Guyana’s average ranking has been 151st.

The men’s FIFA World Ranking for national teams in association football is currently led by Brazil. The teams are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest.

Meanwhile, the Lady Jaguars, who are ranked 87th from 187 nations, sit on 1247.77 points and are sandwiched between Bahrain and Malta who are positioned on 86th and 88th respectively. The Guyanese have been inactive on the international scene since April following their failed campaign in the Concacaf W Championship.

Guyana made light work of Dominica 4-0 and Turks and Caicos 7-0, before suffering consecutive draws against Nicaragua, 0-0, and Trinidad and Tobago, 2-2, which resulted in their failure to advance to the championship round.

The Lady Jaguars highest ever ranking was 76th and was achieved in March 2017. Conversely, the programme’s worst ever rank was 92nd and was incurred in December 2015. The team’s average ranking which is marginally better than its current placement, is 86th.

FIFA World Cup champion and CONCACAF giant, the United States of America, maintain their position atop the rankings. The lowest ranked team is Mauritius on 187th.
