Berbice farmers charged over firearm, ammo

Raymond La Fleur, a 46-year-old rice farmer of West Canje Berbice and Roshan Alie, a 42-year-old farmer of Johanna North, Black Bush Polder were arrested on January 6th at Black Bush Polder and charged yesterday with the following offences:

* Possession of a firearm without a licence;

* Possession of ammunition without licence.

Both accused appeared at Whim Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magistrate Renita Singh where the charges were read to them and they both pleaded not guilty.

As a result, La Fleur was remanded to prison and Alie was released on $100,000 cash bail for each offence.

Alie was also charged with threatening behaviour committed on Ajai Raghunauth which allegedly occurred on January 6th at Kokerite Savannah, Black Bush Polder. He pleaded not guilty and was placed on $30,000 cash bail.
