Prime suspect in murder of DJ confesses – police

The prime suspect in the murder of Disc Jockey (DJ), Brian Pitam was on Tuesday night arrested and he has since confessed to the crime.

This was confirmed by Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum who told Stabroek News yesterday the suspect, a 20-year-old porknocker is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Pitam, 28, of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara was chopped to death on Sunday evening following an altercation at a shop in Laluni Village, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

The police had said that enquiries revealed that Pitam and his father-in-law were imbibing at a shop when the suspects confronted his father-in-law and dealt him a lash in his face.

Pitam then intervened and was chopped several times about his body. The suspects fled the scene on their motorcycles.

Pitam was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His left thumb, index and middle fingers were said to have been severed. His left wrist was partially severed and there was a large chop wound to the back of the neck.
