Essequibo wicketkeeper/batsman, Kemol Savory, yesterday sent a sound message to the national selectors who witnessed him rampage to 170 on day two of the first Guyana Harpy Eagles practice match yesterday.

At the National Stadium, Providence, Savory’s special saw Chanderpaul’s XI reach 378 for six from 87 overs at the close of play after resuming on three without loss, establishing a lead of 117 runs over Veerasammy Permaul’s XI.

The left-hander brought out all the shots especially sweeps and drives as he pummelled five sixes and 17 fours during his 192-ball ordeal. His near six-hour stay at the crease saw him sharing in several critical partnerships.

The 26-year-old added 100 for the fourth wicket with Anthony Bramble with 70 of those coming from his bat. Bramble made 28 from 52 balls while hitting two fours and a six along the way.

Earlier, Savory shared a 52-run third-wicket partnership with Mavindra Dindyal who made 11 from 50 balls before cutting a delivery from Ashmead Nedd (1-72) into the hands of first slip who popped it up for wicketkeeper, Tevin Imlach, to complete the take.

Savory then joined with Tagenarine Chanderpaul to put on 72 for the second wicket, his captain showing his grit on his way to 52 from 113 balls. The pair saw their side to lunch on 108 for one.

The newest West Indies Test player, Chanderpaul, stroked five fours, one of which was through covers off of Junior Sinclair (1-56) to bring up his half-century and two sixes including one over mid-wicket from a full toss off Sinclair’s first delivery.

When Sinclair bowled Chanderpaul in the 35th over, his side went to Tea on 202 for three with Savory on 86.

Savory looked set for a double ton after sharing a 45-run stand with Kevin Sinclair, he was trapped leg before wicket by Nial Smith (1-30). Sinclair closed the day unbeaten on 40 from 50 balls. His innings has featured four fours and one six.

Notably, Chanderpaul had shared in a 66-run opening stand with Chandrapaul Hemraj who made a 43-ball 40 before he was dismissed by Ronaldo Alimohammed (1-27).
