Vergenoegen bus man charged with death by dangerous driving

A 40-year-old minibus driver was yesterday charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving and placed on $300,000 bail.

According to a police release, Claude Pilgrim of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) was arrested on the 13 January, 2023 and charged yesterday by a Corporal attached to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station. He was charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving, contrary to section 35 (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.

The report further stated that the accused appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on $300,000 bail.

The matter was adjourned until February 13.
