Fisherman held with unlicensed firearm at Grove sea dam

Police ranks from the Grove Police Station, at about 19:00 hrs on Tuesday acted on intelligence received and went to Grove Sea dam where a search was carried out on the premises of Ravindra Ramdat, called ‘Boomie’, a 27-year-old fisherman of Grove Seadam, EBD, who was the lone occupant at the time.

During the search, in the presence and full view of Ramdat and other ranks, one of the detectives found one .32 pistol and a magazine hidden on a beam in the roof of the house, a release from the police said.

Ramdat was asked if he was a licensed firearm holder, and he replied in the negative. He was told of the offence committed, cautioned, and arrested.

Ramdat was escorted to the Grove Police Station where the firearm was dusted for latent fingerprints by a rank from the CSI unit and two prints were lifted.

The release said that Ramdat was profiled by the CSI rank and his figure prints taken for comparison. The suspected firearm was thereafter initialled, placed into a firearm evidence box, marked, sealed, and lodged, after which Ramdat was placed into custody and is assisting with investigation/pending charge.
