Norton must be that leader he was called to be

Dear Editor,

I don’t read anything that our politicians say. It is unfortunate but it is true and I have my reservations for that. Editor, after listening to the same things over and over again, it is natural that disgust and frustration will step in.

I took a chance and read some statements by Mr. Aubrey Norton pertaining to the 2023 budget. My first inclination was it is a norm for engaging politicians to react verbally whenever a budget is presented to the nation. I admire Norton, one because he is a brilliant man, and another, he is said to be a no nonsense fella. Editor, however what I am saddened about is how laid back our major opposition affiliates are.

Talk without action is a waste of time and this is why we are seeing the lack of interest shown by the man on the ground.  People don’t take these guys seriously anymore. It is sad but it is true.  For a long time Guyana needed a strong opposition.  An opposition who would rally and get the job done for the people.  We are tired of weightless talks. We need action. You can do it if you put in the work. Aubrey, I know it is a tall task but you have to be prepared to walk the walk and talk the talk… and you have to do it now.  Don’t give up.

Be that leader that you were called to be and make a difference in the lives of our people.  I know you will have to start by getting back the trust and support of your support base. This is possible if you have engaging conversations.  You would have to agree to disagree sometimes but this can be done. Strategies and approachable methods can be used to deliver on your promises because if you continue to be laid back, cat would certainly eat our dinner, if they haven’t already started to. Best of luck, Mr. Norton. God bless my Guyana, our Guyana, land of my birth.

Sincerely,

Yannason Duncan
