Briton John kicked off the local 2023 cycling calendar of activities in fine style on Saturday, winning the invitational event which was staged in the National Park.

John bested a field of eight other wheelsmen in the unofficial season opener since according to reports, it was not sanctioned by the Guyana Cycling Federation.

The United Club standout also claimed four of the five sprint prizes in a dominant showing despite the inclement weather.

For the ‘Crit’ style event which was contested for one hour, John led Jamual John and Alex Leung onto the podium.

Aaron Newton placed fourth, while Alex Mendes and Marlon Williams completed the top six rewarding positions for the race which was organized by past and current cyclists. The promising Leung finished first in the Junior category with Newton second and Jerome Ghanie third.

Ghanie however was the first juvenile across the rape, leaving Christian Dudley.

According to reports, the season is scheduled to get off to an official start at the beginning of February.
