Tuschen brothers arrested over possession of cannabis

Two brothers were yesterday arrested by police over the possession of cannabis after a search of their residence.

According to a police release, 24 year-old Kevin De’cruz, and 25 year-old Patrick De’cruz, both of Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, were arrested yesterday at about 05.30 hours by ranks of Regional Division 3 for the possession of cannabis.

The cannabis being weighed

Acting on intelligence, the police swooped down on the De’cruz residence and conducted a search of the premises in the presence of the occupants, the two men. Whilst searching Kevin’s bedroom, a large transparent zip lock plastic bag containing several smaller ziplock bags with suspected cannabis was found under his bed. He was told of the offence committed and under caution he replied saying: “Is just a small portion, I can deal with that.”

A further search was carried out in the hall where another transparent plastic bag containing suspected cannabis was found on the table. They were told of the offence committed and Patrick De’cruz replied saying: “Is me thing, is a lil thing.”

The brothers were arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station along with the suspected cannabis. On arrival, and in the presence of Kevin, the suspected cannabis was weighed and it amounted to 54.5 grams while the other portion was weighed in the presence of Patrick De’cruz and it amounted to 13.3 grams.

Both Kevin and Patrick were placed into custody pending charges.
