Mahaica man arrested for possession of cannabis

A 50-year-old Mahaica resident was yesterday arrested for possession of narcotics. Police during a search exercise found a total of 985 grams of cannabis along with a cannabis plant.

According to a police report, the narcotics was discovered during a cordon and search exercise conducted at the residence of the suspect at Coconut Walk, Lancaster, Mahaica.

During the search ranks found a black plastic bag containing a small white paint bucket tied to a tree among some bushes. Two compressed black taped parcels of leaves, seeds and stems were found in the bucket. Police also discovered a marijuana plant approximately 3 feet 9 inches in height. A quantity of cash was also found in the container.

The man was arrested and the cannabis was lodged at the Mahaica Police Station.

Charges are to be laid shortly.
