A 27-year-old construction worker was on Monday arrested with 3.563 grammes of cannabis during a police roadblock on the Helena Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

According to the police, on Monday between 16:00 and 17:20 hrs, a party of police conducting the roadblock exercise stopped minibus # BAC 6035 and observed a passenger, who was holding a camouflage haversack, acting in a suspicious manner.

The man, of Marshall Street, Annandale, East Coast Demerara and the haversack were searched and two bulky transparent plastic wrapped packages containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found, the release said.

The passenger was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested and escorted along with the bag to the Mahaica Police Station where the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 3,563 grammes, the police said. The narcotics were lodged and the suspect was processed and photographed as investigations continue.
