A Pomeroon man who was fishing in his canoe in the Upper Pomeroon River, died after a speedboat collided with his canoe.

The autopsy revealed that he died from compound blunt trauma to the back of his head and drowning.

The man was identified by police as Harold Edwards, 62 of Karawab Village, Upper Pomeroon.

According to the Regional Commander, Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran, on Sunday last around 19.45 hours, Edwards was in a canoe fishing in the Upper Pomeroon River, in Karawab Village, when two brothers who were heading home in a speedboat after watching a game of cricket in the Pomeroon area, collided with Edward’s canoe.

One of the brothers was captaining the boat at the time.
