Reon Miller of Boston & Boston is the winner of the Guyana Legal Aid Clinic’s fourth Miles Greeves Fitzpatrick Prize for Legal Aid.

The prize is awarded for the best performance in legal aid by a Guyanese student at the Hugh Wooding Law School. Miller chose Zuckerman on Civil Procedure and Cross & Tapper on Evidence for his prize. The prize – in the form of books to the value of US$500 – was established in 2019 in memory of the late Fitzpatrick, a founder member and former director of the clinic and lifelong advocate for equal access to justice.

In remarks preceding the presentation, Bishwa Panday, the Chairperson of the clinic’s Board of Directors congratulated Miller on his achievement. He said that he hoped the prize would serve as motivation for Miller to seek to emulate Fitzpatrick. Following the presentation, Miller expressed his appreciation of the prize. He said he admired the work done by Fitzpatrick and the clinic and said that he aimed to honour the memory of  Fitzpatrick in his work.

The presentation was made by Sultana Fitzpatrick,  Fitzpatrick’s widow, in the presence of her son Garry and grandson Michael, Panday,  Shellon Boyce, the clinic’s Managing Attorney, other directors and staff of the clinic. The prize giving ceremony took place on 25 January 2023, at the clinic’s Georgetown office.
