Ann’s Grove, and Pouderoyen booked quarterfinal berths with contrasting wins when the East Coast Mash Cup Football Championship continued Friday evening at the Golden Grove Community Centre ground.

While Ann’s Grove were made to work somewhat by Melanie whom they defeated 2-0 in the opening fixture, Pourderoyen’s win came via a walkover.

In the Ann’s Grove, Melanie encounter, the contest was effectively settled in the space of six minutes through the individual brilliance of Dellon Wright. The wily attacker opened the scoring in the fifth minute, directing his powerful header into the back of the net, after latching onto a corner-kick.

The second conversion which occurred in the 11th minute mirrored his first, as Wright rose above his marker inside the penalty box to direct his powerful header into the back of the net, following another corner-kick.

Meanwhile, Pouderoyen defeated Santos without breaking a sweat via a walkover, after the latter failed to arrive for the scheduled encounter.

The event continues today at the same venue with another round of elimination fixtures. At 18:00hrs, Beterverwagting (BV) will lock horns with Monedderlust, while the feature affair will pit Rosignol against Buxton Stars from 20:30hrs.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, whilst the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
