Sparta Boss `upset’ Upsetters

Sparta Boss, Back Circle and Beterverwagting (BV) recorded contrasting wins when the maiden edition of the Rocks Auto Trans and Spares Parts ‘Legendary Cup’ Futsal Championship commenced Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

The Spartans romped to a 5-0 win over Upsetters. Darron Niles bagged a double in the 19th and 20th minute while Curtez Kellman, Nicholas MacArthur and Gregory Richardson scored in the fifth, eighth and 29th minute respectively.

 Similarly, Back Circle crushed Melanie 6-0. Jermin Beckles bagged a hat-trick in the third, 17th and 20th minute whilst Shemar Koulen added a double in the 21st and 26th minute. Netting in the 13th minute was Stephon McLean.

In another fixture, BV battled past Sophia 2-0. An own goal opened the scoring in the fourth minute, while Jamar Harrigon netted in the eight minute.

The event will continue tomorrow at the same venue with another wave of elimination matches. Stabroek Ballers will oppose West Side at 19:45hrs, whilst Future Stars tackle Mocha Family at 20:30hrs, and Gold is Money takes aim at Albouystown at 21:15hrs.

Vengy and Avocado Ballers will then take centre stage at 22:00hrs, with Española opposing Alexander Village at 22:45hrs and Bent Street tackling Vryheid’s Lust from 23:30hrs.

The knockout championship which features 24 teams, will last for the duration of six nights and will be contested for over $1M in prizes. The other playing dates are the 11th, 14th, 18th, and 25th.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy.

On the other hand, the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively.

On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive one motorcycle. Similarly, a patron will receive one motorcycle on the night of the final.
