Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill, yesterday afternoon received a donation of 50 street lamps from the Chief Executive Officer of KSM Investments Inc, Mahadeo Panchu – a concrete product manufacturing, import and distribution company.

A Ministry of Public Works release stated that Edghill thanked Panchu and his family for partnering with government for development, especially in his own community of De Hoop, Mahaica, which is in line with government’s vision of private sector involvement in national development.

“Just providing a space for children to play, and where parents could sit on a bench and the children could ride around; getting the private sector, community groups involved in those little things, affordable things, well thought out things, they make big impact. Community involvement and participation is critical to national development. This is what President Ali has been encouraging”, he said.

The company answered the call of the government and donated the street lamps for the Region Five community.

The Panchu family and KSM have pledged to maintain the lamps for the next two years, following which government will take up the responsibility. The lights will be installed throughout the De Hoop Branch Road by next Wednesday.
