Showstoppers steal the show

Watched by a mammoth crowd, Showstoppers, Jetty Gunners, Team Family, Ballers Empire, and ESPN recorded contrasting wins when the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ East Bank/West Demerara Championship commenced  Friday following a three-year absence,

Hosted at the Pouderoyen Tarmac, the three-time champion, and crowd favourite owing to their status as the home side, Showstoppers, battled past CN Ballers by a 2 – 1 score-line. Dexroy Adams recorded a timely double in the fifth and 25th minutes. On target in the loss in the ninth minute was Jamal Crawford.

Likewise, Jetty Gunners squeaked past Team Anti-Social 2 – 0 via a Marvin Josiah ‘Guinness Goal’ (GG) [a goal scored in the final three minutes of the second half counts as two] in the 18th minute.

In another fixture, Ballers Empire brushed aside Ramsay Clan 4 – 0. Jaleel Hamilton and Seon Alfred crafted first-half goals in the sixth and 14th minute apiece whilst Solomon Austin tallied a (GG) in the 29th minute.

 ESPN defeated Upsetters 2 – 0. The combination of Dennis Edwards and Tefon Daly etched their name on the scorer’s sheet in the 14th and 18th minute respectively. Also, Team Family overcame Hillside 1 – 0. Eon Mars scored in the fourth minute. 

Meanwhile, the quarterfinal section was underway last evening, with the losers from the opening night competing in the Guinness Plate section.
