Hotel manager robbed of purse on Main and Hope streets

A 40-year-old female from Cumming Lodge Housing Scheme, ECD and a Human Resources Manager for a prominent hotel was robbed in the vicinity of Main and Hope streets, Georgetown on Sunday.

According to a police press release, the woman was standing on Main and Hope streets waiting for transportation to go home. She was then accosted by the suspect, who took out a knife from his pants waist, pointed it at her and relieved her of her purse. The purse contained cash [amount not stated], one blue Samsung S10 cellular phone valued at $120,000, ATM cards for GBTI, Republic Bank, Demerara Bank, National Identification Card, National Insurance Scheme Card and other documents.

The woman held on to her purse during the robbery, and during the scuffle she fell and suffered an injury to her right knee. After relieving her of her purse, the suspect ran in a westerly direction along Hope Street into ‘Tiger Bay’.  Several persons were questioned by the police and checks were made for the suspect but he was not located. 

The victim went to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was medically examined, treated and sent away. CCTV cameras in the area are expected to be viewed by investigators.
