Charge reduced for woman accused of killing husband at Golden Grove

The murder charge brought against 30-year-old Aquiella Abrams in October of last year over the death of her reputed husband, Michael Wilson, was yesterday withdrawn and a manslaughter charge was instead instituted. In addition she was granted bail in the sum of $500,000.

Abrams of Onion Field, La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara (ECD) made her second appearance at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore who read the newly instituted charge to the woman.

The murder charge was withdrawn as a result of the post-mortem examination showing that the 40-year-old Wilson had died from only one stab wound which she allegedly inflicted on him on October 10, 2022, at Sideline Dam, Golden Grove, ECD.  She was not required to plead to the indictable charge and the matter was adjourned to March 8.

The police had reported that Wilson was fatally stabbed at about 8.15 am on the day in question at his home at the aforementioned address where he and the woman resided. According to them, Abrams and Wilson had been experiencing domestic problems over the past two years at the time and on the day of the fatal stabbing, she told the man that she was ending their relationship and that she would be returning to her parents’ house.

The police had further said that at about 8 on the morning, the woman was in the midst of packing her belongings when a violent argument erupted between her and Wilson. During the argument it was stated that Wilson took a knife and cut her on the left forearm. Abrams then managed to disarm the man and stabbed him, the police said.
