Golden Grove woman remanded over murder of husband

The woman who allegedly murdered 40-year-old Michael Wilson yesterday made her first court appearance at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court where she was remanded to prison.

Thirty-year-old Aquiella Abrams of Onion Field, La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and was not required to plead to the indictable charge which states that on October 10, at Sideline Dam, Golden Grove, ECD, she murdered Wilson.

Magistrate Azore remanded her to prison until November 30th when the matter will be called again.

Wilson was fatally stabbed at about 8.15 am last Monday at his home at Lot 109 Sideline Dam where he and the woman had resided.

The police had previously stated that Abrams and Wilson had been experiencing domestic problems over the past two years and on the day of the fatal stabbing, she told the man that she was ending their relationship and that she would be returning to her parents’ house.

At about 8 on the morning in question, the woman was in the midst of packing her belongings when a violent argument erupted between her and Wilson. During the argument, the police said that Wilson took a knife and cut her on the left forearm. Abrams then managed to disarm the man and stabbed him twice in the abdomen.

Wilson was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state where died while undergoing medical treatment.

One of the neighbours who Wilson had run to for help had given Stabroek News an entirely different version of events.

Odessa Wray had noted that prior to the stabbing, she heard no noise nor arguments from the couple to indicate that something was amiss between them. “So like he was sleeping because I didn’t hear any noise or argument between them and like she lash he in he head and then is when he start calling fuh me ‘Ode, Ode, Ode’. Like he calling fuh me all the time while she deh boring he up ‘Ode, Ode, Ode, Ode, Ode.’”

“So when I hear he calling I start going to he rescue but I have a lil hip problem so I can’t walk fast, so I walk and I stand up right down deh [pointing to the entrance of her bridge] and I see he cousin from he father side that went on the road and I start call for he fuh come and see, I seh ‘Joel, Joel, Joel’, and I stand up and start call for the neighbour over the next side as well and seh ‘come out, come out, Mickey and he girl, y’all come out, me alone can’t go’… Mickey managed to escape from the girl and he come over at me but I still went on the street trying fuh get people fuh come and call the police and ambulance and so on.”

Wray said that when she went back into her house, Wilson had already fallen into an unconscious state. “When I come in back in me house I see Mickey deh in me kitchen flat pon the ground bleeding… Is share ‘ah Ode, ah Ode’ how he crying out for the pain… so they [other persons in the yard] wrap he up with a sheet because they say they can’t let the stab them expose to air… he seh ‘Ode meh a call fuh yuh help me’, I said ‘Mickey you live and you will not die,’” added the woman.

She had also stated that Wilson had recently suffered a severe cut and due to that, he was most likely helpless during the attack. The woman said that from her knowledge, she was never aware of any incident of Wilson abusing the woman.
