Essequibo pensioner fined for possession of marijuana

An Essequibo man was on Tuesday fined $28,000 after he pleaded guilty to a drug trafficking charge when he appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam.

The defendant, 65-year-old Stephen Vaughn, of Lot 115 Bedford Street, Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, was charged with possession of 19.6 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking which offence he committed on February 26 at the aforementioned address.

Vaughn pleaded guilty and was fined $28,000 or in default, one month’s imprisonment.
