Joint services Canje Creek operation results in marijuana farms destroyed, shot gun seized -pensioner arrested

Following a joint exercise by police and army on Wednesday at Ikuruwa Creek, Canje Creek Berbice River three marijuana farms were destroyed and a shot gun with matching ammunition seized.

A 67-year-old farmer was arrested.

According to a release from the police, the exercise was conducted between 4 am and 4 pm on Wednesday and apart from the destroyed marijuana fields, camps and 1800 cannabis plants, were also destroyed. The lawmen also discovered dried cannabis and cannabis seeds which had an approximate weight of 250 lbs.

When questioned, the arrested famer, told the police that single-barrel 12-gauge shotgun and five live matching cartridges that were found beside his bed belonged to an individual (name given) who left the firearm with him for safekeeping. The release said that the named individual is being sought even as investigators pursue other persons linked to the cannabis farms.
