Police intercept Blue Mountain miner with illegal firearm, ammunition

A 41-year-old miner is now in custody after ranks from Regional Division #7 relieved him of a pistol and ammunition during a patrol in Blue Mountain Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.

According to police, the ranks were on mobile patrol in Blue Mountain Backdam at about 11.30 hours on Friday and while traversing the Morawa Backdam Trail they encountered a pick-up, GPP 4914, which was being driven by 41-year-old Ryan David.

The patrol stopped David and executed a search of the vehicle whereupon a black .32 pistol with 11 matching rounds of ammunition were found in the pocket of the left side door. The weapon carried no manufacturer’s name or serial number.

David was subsequently informed of the offence committed and under caution admitted ownership of the firearm and ammunition. He was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station where he was placed into custody and the items lodged in an evidence box.

David is expected to be charged soon.
