Former champs Chase Academy whips Dora Secondary 7-0

Former champions Chase Academy, Ann’s Grove, Westminster and Charlestown recorded contrasting wins when the 9th edition of the Milo Secondary Schools U18 Football Championship resumed yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Chase Academy demolished Dora Secondary 7-0. Wendell Pickett recorded a double in the 20th and 27th minute, whilst Justin Alcindor, Manasseh Anderson, Kerstyn Gonsalves, Neeraz Baksh and Jude Daniels scored in the ninth, 58th, 63rd, 65th, and 69th minute respectively.

Similarly, Ann’s Grove downed Queen’s College 5-2. Naron Jerrick crafted a brace in the fourth and seventh minute while Daniel Murphy, Leroy France, and Joshua Perreira scored in the second, 58th and 68th minute respectively. For the losers, Menelek Ferreira scored in the 50th minute alongside a 17th minute own goal. On the other hand, Westminster upset Annandale 3-2. Harod Haynes bagged a brace in the 48th and 58th minute while Samuel McAllister scored in the 19th minute. For the losers, Jaden Harris and Osafo Brown scored in the 56th and 61st minute respectively. Also, Charlestown downed Berbice Educational Trust 3-1. The trident of Andrew Carto, Jermaine Taylor and Tyler Lyle found the back of the net in the 21st, 27th, and 31st minute respectively. On target in the loss was T’ Jon Reid in the 35th minute.

The tournament continues on Saturday at the same venue with another round of matches. The event features 32 teams competing in an initial group stage format comprising eight groups of four. The top two finishers from each pool will advance to the round of 16 stage.

The winner of the event will pocket $300,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers walking away with $200,000, $100,000, and $75,000 respectively for a school initiative and the corresponding accolade.
