A Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo fisherman is currently in police custody pending charges for having in his possession seven grammes of cocaine, discovered during a search by a police patrol on Friday, in the Anna Regina car park, Essequibo Coast.

The fisherman has been identified as Lookman Hayat, of Lot 3 Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo.

A police release stated that around 22:00 hours that day, ranks on patrol in the vicinity of the Anna Regina car park intercepted four males who acted suspiciously upon observing the patrol. Ranks proceeded to search the men and found several pieces of a whitish rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine in Hayat’s left side trousers pocket.

The man was then told of the offence committed and cautioned. When questioned about the suspected cocaine in his possession, he confirmed that it was bought at a shop but could not have said specifically which shop it was. The suspect along with the narcotic was taken to the Anna Regina Police Station where it was weighed and amounted to 7 grammes.

Hayat is currently in custody pending charges.
