A 35-year-old fisherman of Skeldon, East Berbice, was nabbed last Friday at Charity, Essequibo Coast, allegedly with 6.40 grammes of cocaine.

According to the police, ranks of Regional Police Division Two were on mobile patrol duty in Charity (Back Street) Essequibo Coast, at about 18:20 hrs when they observed Ricky Singh, walking with a bag on his back, acting in a suspicious manner.

They stopped him and informed him that they wanted to conduct a search of his belongings to which he agreed, the police said. The search unearthed a plastic bag containing 25 pieces of a creamy rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine. A further search on his left-side trousers pocket revealed two smoking pipes.

When Singh was told of the offence committed and cautioned, he reportedly replied, “I just buy it from someone.” He was arrested and taken to Charity Police Station, where the suspected cocaine, weighed in his presence, mounted to 6.40 grammes.
