Victory Valley Royals crowned champs

Victory Valley Royals was crowned the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) senior men’s outdoor champions after they  defeated Colts 77-70 on Saturday evening at the Burnham Court, Parade Ground.

The opening quarter ended favourably for Colts as they seized a marginal 16-13 advantage. However, the Linden outfit responded in the second quarter, recording 21 points while restricting Colts to 16 points to clinch a 34-32 advantage heading into the halftime interval.

The lead was marginally increased in the pivotal third period as Royals pipped Colts 22-21 to enter the final quarter ahead at 56-53. The victory was then realised as Royals out-hustled Colts 21-17. Orlan Glasgow top scored for the victors with 22 points whilst eventual tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) Yannick Tappin recorded 20 points.

Adding 12, 10, and seven points respectively were Harold Adams, Vibert Benjamin and Marlon Pollydore. For the losers, Shelroy Thomas and Shane Webster scored 22 and 18 points respectively with O’Quacey Short, Domitre Rankin and Quacey Lindo adding 13, seven and five points apiece.
