Wins for Victory Valley Royals, Ravens

Victory Valley Royals of Linden and Ravens secured victories when the Guyana Basketball Federation senior men’s outdoor championships commenced Sunday evening at the Burnham Court, Parade Ground.

The Royals defeated Colts by a 67-58 score. The first quarter ended brightly for the home side, as they raced to a 19-14 advantage. However, Royals responded in the second quarter, scoring 25 points, while restricting Colts to 19 points to enter the halftime interval marginally ahead at 39-38. The visitors maintained their slim margin in the pivotal third quarter, as they outscored their opponent 13-12 to enter the fourth quarter with a 52-50 lead. Royals then sealed the come-from-behind victory, as they outhustled Colts 15-8.

Yannick Tappin led the Royals with a game-high 20 points. He was supported by Harold Adams who scored 14 points, while the combination of Orlan Glasgow and Daniel Lee added 10 points respectively. Supporting with six points was Joel Webster.

On the other side, Shane Webster bagged 19 points, whilst Shelroy Thomas and O’Quacey Short contributed 14 and 12 points respectively.

Meanwhile, Ravens defeated Kobras 51-49. Leading 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, Ravens increased their advantage heading into the halftime interval at 32-19, as they outscored their opponent 13-6 in the second stanza.

However, Kobras staged a comeback in the pivotal third quarter, registering 20 points while reducing the Ravens’ offense to only eight points to trail 40-39 heading into the final period. Nonetheless, Ravens secured their hard-fought result, as they outscored Kobras 11-10.

Dominic Vincente top scored for the victor with 12 points, with Darcel Harris the next best scorer with 10 points. Assisting with seven points apiece were Jude Corlette and Lloyd Bart, whilst Shamar Huntley added six points.

For Kobras, Drexel Aaron recorded a game-high 18 points, while the experienced Jermin Slater supported with 11 points. Chipping in with eight and six points each were Carlos Edwards and Mark Williams respectively.
