Police find cannabis in Charity Scheme businessman’s store

A businessman of Charity Scheme on the Essequibo Coast is currently in police custody pending charges after 59.2 grammes of cannabis was recovered by police during a mobile patrol in the area on Friday night.

According to a police release, the businessman has been identified as 29-year-old Keenan Benjamin.

The release explained that at about 19:45 hours, the ranks had observed the businessman acting suspiciously and as such requested permission to search him and his shop located in Charity Back Street, to which he agreed.

In the course of the search, they discovered fifty-four  small transparent zip lock plastic bags with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis on the counter of shop.

Benjamin was told of the offence committed and cautioned. He was then arrested and taken to the Charity Police Station along with the suspected cannabis, which when weighed in his presence amounted to 59.2 grammes. He is currently in custody pending charges.
