Essequibo businessman arrested for possession of cannabis

A 21 year-old Essequibo businessman was arrested on Wednesday after being found in possession of suspected cannabis.

A police report stated that acting on information, ranks from the Regional Police Division #2, at about 10:50 hours went to Gerrod [aka Gerrod] Granvell’s shop situated at Anna Regina’s Old Market Street where ranks found Granvell holding a black plastic bag in his right hand. The report said upon the searching the black plastic bag, they found a transparent plastic bag with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Granvell, of Lot 10 Henrietta Village, was told of the offence committed and cautioned.

He then admitted to having the suspected narcotics in his possession, however,  a further search was conducted of the businessman’s premises but nothing of evidential value was found.

He was arrested and taken to the Anna Regina Police Station along with the suspected cannabis where it was weighed in his presence and amounted to 10.3 grams.

Granvell is presently in custody pending charges.
