S&D T20 final set for today at Farm

The highly-anticipated final of the S and D T20 competition will take place today at the Farm cricket ground, East Bank Demerara between Herstelling B and Continental Raptors Sports Club.

The two teams will battle  from 13.00 hours for the grand prize of $100,000. However, the loser will not leave empty-handed, but will pocket $40,000. The Man-of-the-Match will win $10,000 while prizes will be given to the best bowler and best batsman.

Herstelling B advanced to the final by demolishing  Demolition by five wickets. Demolition scored 117 for nine from their allotted overs after winning the toss and opting to bat while Herstelling B raced to 120 for five with five overs to spare.

Budhan Baksh contained Demolition with 5-34 while  Darren Manher took 2-28.

Bernard Bailey top scored with 24 not out while Cowin Austin chipped in with 19. Herstelling B were into the final on the backs of Clement Archer (37) and Miguel Parks (30). Floy Joseph bagged 2-12 and Leon Swamy returned 1-20.

Earlier, Herstelling B had defeated North Soesdyke by 53 runs after posting 227 for four and limiting North Soesdyke to 174 for eight.

For Herstelling B, Jermin Ramroop top scored with 68 and Archer made 44. Rockaman Gangaram took 2-11.

Assad Fuddadin looked set to chase down the target for North Soesdyke with 42 but only Travis Primo could give a contribution with 25 as Quazim Yusuf took 3-23 and Ramroop returned 2-31.

Meanwhile, an unbeaten century from Troy Benn propelled Raptors to a two-wicket win over Sandpiper to book their place in the final.

Benn struck six sixes and nine fours during his 104 not out that inspired Raptors to 194 for eight with a ball to spare in response to Sandpiper’s 193 for five.

Benn was supported by Stephen Alves who carved three sixes and two fours on his way to 31 and Ryan Latif with 21.

Deon Thomas picked up 3-30 for Sandpiper while Abolash Deokie took 2-56.

Earlier, Sandpiper’s innings was propped up by Andy Lall who hit seven sixes and five fours on his way to a top score of 71 and Keshan Persaud with 66. His innings featured 11 boundaries while Alves returned 2-16.
